Course Description

Currently, the IRS only requires practitioners who represent taxpayers before the IRS to follow Circular 230 due to the Loving case. Even though tax representation creates a jurisdiction hook, tax representatives can still run afoul for tax preparation issues under Circular 230. The Online Webinar covers the basics of IRS Office Professional Responsibility, how it functions, handles cases and interacts with tax practitioners. This live CE webinar will also cover, jurisdictional issues of who is subject to Circular 230 and the sanction power of OPR. This CE webinar for EAs will also cover what to do in a situation where OPR reaches out to you as a practitioner for possible violations of Circular 230.

With possible legislation looming that would require all tax return preparers to follow Circular 230, there is no better time to get a refresher on the requirements of Circular 230. This course will provide all the details a tax practitioner needs in order to say on the right side of OPR and reduce the chance of facing any type of sanction or fine.

Learning Objectives

  • To get familar with the basics of the IRS Office Professional Responsibility
  • To discuss jurisdictional issues of who is subject to Circular 230
  • To discuss how OPR could levy a penalty

Fantastic Teacher! Great coverage of the material. Presenter gave good suggestions for best practices within the firms to stay in compliance. Made what can be a dry topic interesting with the actual examples of real life cases.

PW

This was a great training on ethics. Included some different perspectives that I didn't expect.I learned far more in this webinar than any other Ethics course I've ever taken. I very much enjoyed the presentation and how interesting the whole topic of Ethics is in formulating rules, etc.
