Course Description

This course is valid up to December 31st, 2023 for CFP Professionals. It is advisable to complete this course before that to process the credit on time.

Derivatives continue to serve as a very effective method for entities to hedge their business risks. Entities use it to reduce their exposure to interest rates, currency exchange, and general market risks that they encounter in running their businesses. Derivatives have become popular tools for "hedging" (i.e. reducing) financial risk; they have also become an increasingly standard item on big companies' balance sheets.

This CPE course introduces participants to derivatives and their markets, both on exchanges and over the counter. It will be set at an introductory level although some knowledge of financial services is assumed.

About Instructor

Craig Haymaker

Mr. Haymaker is Chief Operating Officer of HedgeStar where he oversees the risk management consulting, hedge accounting and valuation groups. He is a subject matter expert in financial reporting and accounting for debt, equities, derivatives and other financial instruments. Mr. Haymaker has over 11 years of audit, professional accounting, and risk management experience. Mr. Haymaker has held positions with top companies including Deloitte & Touche LLP (Boston), Liberty Mutual Group (Boston) and U.S. Bank (Minneapolis) with a focus on treasury departments, capital markets and risk functions.

Mr. Haymaker is also an Events Committee Chair and Steering Committee Member for the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association (PRMIA) in Minneapolis.

Mr. Haymaker holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Stonehill College, and earned his CPA accreditation in 2010.
