Course Description

Course Description

This online CPE webinar is designed for business owners and those other professionals (accountants and Human Resources professionals) who assist businesses. When an employee asks for an accommodation, sometimes the business may need to take steps to explore whether it is feasible to provide such an accommodation.  Attendees will learn how the duty to “reasonably accommodate” focuses on disabilities and religious beliefs.  Examples will include 2021 problems employers are facing involving COVID issues.

This online continuing education course will provide attendees with an overview of an employer’s duty to accommodate employees under various federal laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act.

This online CPE course will use real-world examples that have been ripped from the headlines. Rather than vague theory, this online CPE webinar will use the same type of situations that employers are likely to confront. Attendees will be able to learn techniques to help their organizations minimize the risks of being sued for discrimination under various federal laws.

This online CPE webinar covers the following key topics:

  • How the duty to “reasonably accommodate” focuses on disabilities and religious beliefs.
  • Employer-mandated flu shots and other vaccines
  • EEOC v. Abercrombie & Fitch Stores, Inc.
  • How duty to accommodate is different under Title VII and the ADA
  • Applicant refused to provide SSN due to religion…how to handle it?
  • Does the ADA Require Automatic Reassignment to Another Position?
  • Grooming policy & dreadlocks
  • An employee with multiple sclerosis requesting accommodation
  • Can you fire a worker if she cannot work after using up all 12 weeks of her leave under the Family Medical Leave Act?

Learning Objectives

  • To discuss ways to handle employee requests for accommodations due to COVID-related concerns, as well as non-COVID issues, such as grooming policies and dress codes.
  • To discuss the risks associated with employees with a disability asking for accommodations, and how to best handle them.
