Course Description

Course Description

Projects are temporary endeavors undertaken to create a unique result or business impact.  Projects often are under time constraints and resource constraints.  To achieve the business impact given the constraints, the project team must develop a project plan that is responsive to both the goals and the constraints.

This online CPE webinar has four sessions that introduce the principles and best practice tools used to develop project plans. It explores the tension between scope, schedule, resources, and risks. It also contrasts the project planning process of traditional project management with Agile scrum project management.

Following are the major topics covered in all the sessions of this CPE Management Course:

Session 1 topics:

  • Elements of a project plan, Primary project constraints, and planning, Traditional versus Agile scrum planning, Iterative planning with lessons learned, Creating and maintaining the baseline plan, Project leader’s role: communication and risk management.

Session 2 topics:

  • Scope development and decomposition, Work Breakdown Structures, Project backlog, Quality requirements, and the “definition of done.” Task planning, Risk impact from scope planning.

Session 3 topics:

  • Scheduling approaches, Schedule milestones, Schedule planning and network diagrams, Schedule tracking (Gantt charts and Scrum boards), Critical path principle, Burn-down chart, Risk impact from schedule planning.

Session 4 topics:

  • Resource planning approaches, Top-down and bottom-up budgeting, Project team responsibility matrix, Resource allocation, and resource leveling, Risk impact from resource planning.
