Course Description

Course Description

Planning for retirement starts with thinking about your retirement goals and how long you have to meet them. To have a comfortable, secure—and fun—retirement, you need to build the financial cushion that will fund it all. The key part of the same is to build strong planning to reach there.

Retirement planning includes identifying sources of income, estimating expenses, implementing a savings program, and managing assets and risks. Future cash flows are estimated to determine if the retirement income goal will be achieved.

While you were busy with Tax Season, the IRS and Congress were busy making changes to retirement plans. In January, the IRS issued Notice 2022-6 which updates the rules for IRC §72(t), Substantially Equal Periodic Payments (SEPP). In February, the IRS issued the Proposed Regulations for the SECURE Act which passed in December 2019. These Proposed Regulations give us much-needed guidance but add more confusion. In March, the House of Representatives passed SECURE 2.0 and makes many changes to retirement plans.

Following are the major topics covered in this CE  Tax webinar:

  • IRS Notice 2022-6 regarding 72(t) SEPP
  • SECURE Act RMD Proposed Regulations
  • SECURE 2.0

This CE/CPE course by speaker Lawrence Pon provides a general review of new developments in retirement tax planning.

Here is the link to your interests: IRS Approved CE Webinars.

  • To explain the fixed amortization method, Notice 2002-62, change in interest rate, early IRA distributions- avoiding the 10% penalty.
  • To analyze new life expectancy tables, Roth conversion & SEPP, retirement assets and change in method, account being completely depleted.
  • To review private letter rulings, when to fulfill the obligation to take SEPP, and other planning considerations.
