Course Description

Course Description

As global cybercrime increases, governments and businesses are struggling to keep up with the threats they are facing; because of the changing and innovative methods of attack being used against them. All tax professionals should be aware that they, too, are targets of cybercriminals seeking access to client data to file fraudulent tax returns for refunds.

Are you prepared?

Protect your clients and protect yourself by taking a few critical steps.

This CE/CPE webinar will identify both data security requirements and considerations for tax professionals to protect their practice and clients.

The IRS recommends tax professionals use Publication 4557, Safeguarding Taxpayer Data, as a guide for conducting a review of your current security measures and to create or update your security plan. You must assess your current security precautions and address any weaknesses. The IRS also recommends tax professionals create an action plan to outline the steps you would take in the event of data theft. This will save valuable time should the worst occur.

This CPE tax course is designed for tax professionals who collect and store clients’ personal information, who would like to obtain an understanding of data and cyber-security.

Learning Objectives

  • To identify how criminals commit acts of cyber fraud.
  • To evaluate cybersecurity internal controls that will protect your company from cybercriminals.
  • To identify the IRS cybersecurity recommendations for tax professionals.
  • To analyze what to do after a data theft or loss.

Recommended For

  • This IRS Approved CE webinar will be insightful for CPAs, EAs, AFSPs, CITPs, CFEs, MRTPs, CIAs, MAFFs, and Tax Professionals who want to identify both data security requirements and considerations to protect their clients.
