Course Description

The original use of the term ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) dates back to 2004 when the United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan invited 55 CEOs of major financial institutions to participate in an international project to integrate ESG into capital markets. That group produced a study in 2005 entitled ‘Who Cares Wins’, which set out the business case for embedding ESG factors into investment decisions, thereby improving the sustainability of markets and leading to better outcomes for society.

These three pillars are the central factors in measuring the sustainability and ethical impact of investments. A growing number of investors rely on these factors to determine whether they ultimately want to invest or continue to invest, in a given business. The practice places value on companies’ choices to be environmentally conscious, ethically aware, and forward-looking.

There is an emerging consensus that capitalism needs to work for all stakeholders involved to create value that is sustainable for the long term. The majority of large companies in the US are already providing sustainability reporting voluntarily and, with some parts of the world already mandating ESG disclosures, there is strong indication that ESG reporting could soon be a requirement in the US as well.

This 1-hour free CPE webinar is the perfect introduction to the ESG basics from the background of sustainability reporting leading up to current day developments including:

The recent commitment from the five leading voluntary framework-setters to work towards one common global standard of ESG reporting.

Recently issued set of 21 core metrics to measure Stakeholder Capitalism by the World Economic Forum International Business Council.

In this CPE course the speaker will also discuss why companies should voluntarily adopt ESG reporting, how companies can get started and how support functions (IT, HR, Compliance, Investor Relations, Internal Audit, etc..) can be partners on this journey.
