What are CPE Requirements for Alaska Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Professionals?

What is the Ethics Requirement for Alaska Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Professionals?

Alaska State Board of Accountancy has implemented a mandatory four-hour ethics requirement. This requires Alaska (AK) CPA license holders to take four hours of ethics education every CPE cycle. Regulatory AICPA Ethics, Circular 230 Ethics, or Behavioural Ethics all subject areas are approved for qualifying as ethics. All licensees should complete all 80 hours of CPE till December 31 of odd-numbered years regardless of when first issued. If the license is issued within 90 days of the current expiration date then the CPA is required to complete all 80 hours till the end of the next reporting cycle.

Online renewal will require you to upload your CPE certificates of completion. If you do not upload your certificates of completion, you should keep your copies in case the board performs an audit of your CPE, you will be responsible for submitting copies of your certificates of completion and/or verification of courses at the time of the audit. You must retain your documentation for at least three (3) years from the date the program was completed.

  • The license renewal fee for Alaska (AK) CPA is $390.

A registrant must report, at a minimum, the CPE hours required for the registration renewal period. Hours that exceed the number required for the current registration renewal period may not be carried forward to a subsequent registration renewal period.

  • You are in non-compliance if you do not complete at least 80 hours of acceptable CPE by December 31.
  • Failure to meet the CPE requirements for renewal during the renewal period may result in disciplinary action and the license will lapse.
  • The CPA will be required to pay late renewal fees of $100, license reactivation fee of $150 along with license renewal fees of $390 after completing the required CPE hours.
