Course Description

Knowing how to memorize complex information quickly is a secret weapon for professionals in fast-paced, demanding fields. Your memory has amazing capabilities – everyone does. But to tap into these abilities, you need to know the basics of how your memory works.

This CPE webinar builds on the Memory Basics course, teaching participants how to use advanced strategies including retrieval practice, visualization, and narrative structure. It teaches fast, efficient techniques to remember more information in less time.

Join author and research psychologist, Dr. Michelle Miller, in extending your ability to maximize memory. This CPE course will explain the mental mechanisms behind word learning and teach powerful techniques that participants can put into practice right away.

Following are the major topics covered in this CPE course:

  • Why do we forget so much of what we experience
  • How passive exposure tricks us into thinking we remember more than we do
  • How sensations affect what we remember
  • How emotions affect what we remember
  • How to use retrieval practice to enhance recall in a variety of situations and settings
  • How to use imagery to memorize complex sequences of ideas
  • How cues become tied up in memory and sometimes undermine our ability to recall

The online CPE Personal Development course features interactive exercises throughout the session, as well as opportunities to review what you learned from the Memory Basics webinar, discuss your reflections on memory with fellow participants, and ask questions about how memory works and how it can work better.

Learning Objectives

  • To review and strengthen what you learned in the Memory Basics for Professionals course.
  • To analyze how to take advantage of factors such as sensations and emotions to enhance memory.
  • To explain why passive exposure is ineffective for study.
  • To prevent context and cues from sabotaging memory.
  • To discuss how to apply strategies for memorizing complex information such as a speech.
  • To design and use your personalized strategies for retrieval practice.
