Course Description

Today, effective messages are those that stand out among a daily deluge of information, and to stand out, these messages have to stick.

This CPE webinar teaches the core principles that make content memorable, and techniques for putting these into practice including active engagement, narrative structure, evoking emotions, and other powerful factors that trigger storage and retrieval of memories.

Join author and research psychologist, Dr. Michelle Miller, in tackling these questions that affect all professionals working in technology-driven environments. Dr. Miller will draw on her recent book Remembering and Forgetting in the Age of Technology to discuss what works and what does not when it comes to making your message memorable.

Answers to the following questions are given in this CPE course:

  • What are the core principles of memory?
  • Why straight repetition is ineffective for ensuring recall?
  • Why active engagement is necessary for enhancing memory?
  • How innovative teaching techniques like prediction, storytelling, and deep processing can be applied outside of classrooms, in a variety of professional settings?
  • Why catering to learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) is ineffective for ensuring recall?

In this highly interactive CPE/CPD course, participants will learn how to make the most of techniques drawn from memory theory and the practical experiences of people in professions (such as teaching) that emphasize making material memorable.
