Ascend Adds BGW and TSA to Its Expanding Accounting Platform

Private equity-backed accounting firm platform Ascend has acquired two firms – BGW from North Carolina and Tronconi Segarra & Associates LLP (TSA) from New York. The acquisitions, effective from July 1, solidifies Ascend's mission to establish a collaborative community of independent accounting firms for sustainable growth and innovation.
Ascend, the private equity-backed accounting firm platform supported by Alpine Investors, has expanded its national footprint with the addition of two East Coast firms: BGW of Charlotte, N.C., and Tronconi Segarra & Associates LLP (TSA) of Williamsville, N.Y. Effective July 1, both firms transition from traditional partnership structures to Ascend’s modern, independence-affirming model.
BGW, founded in 1983, brings 75 professionals and seven partners into the fold, offering business advisory and public accounting services to closely held businesses. BGW partner Stephanie Taylor emphasized the firm’s desire for scalable growth without cultural compromise: “Ascend gives us support without bureaucracy, tools without takeover.” Ascend President Nishaad Ruparel praised BGW for its bold, innovative spirit, calling them “Anything but Typical.”
TSA, a full-service firm with 150+ staff, has long emphasized creative, client-specific solutions under its “Solutions Beyond the Obvious” philosophy. CEO James S. Segarra cited Ascend’s unmatched resources as key to future-proofing the firm. Ruparel noted that TSA’s generational leadership transition and entrepreneurial mindset align perfectly with Ascend’s vision for collaborative, forward-looking growth.
These moves highlight Ascend’s commitment to building a community of independent-yet-connected accounting firms poised for long-term relevance and reinvention.
