Top 20 accounting firm Citrin Cooperman has announced it will acquire San Diego-based firm Gatto, Pope & Walwick (GPW), adding ten partners and over 60 professionals to its West Coast team. The acquisition bolsters Citrin Cooperman's presence in Southern California and expands its ability to serve clients in diverse industries, while GPW expresses eagerness to offer its clients the expanded resources of Citrin Cooperman.
Top 20 accounting firm Citrin Cooperman has announced an agreement to acquire Gatto, Pope & Walwick (GPW), a San Diego-based accounting and advisory firm. The deal is expected to close on December 1, adding 10 partners/managing directors and more than 60 professionals to Citrin Cooperman’s growing West Coast team.
Founded in 1983, GPW provides assurance, tax, and consulting services to clients in industries including construction, manufacturing, escrow and title, nonprofits, and employee benefit plans, as well as specialized tax work for high-net-worth individuals, professional athletes, and estates.
“This move is about doing more for the people who trust us most, our team and our clients,” said Tom McFadden, managing partner of GPW. “Citrin Cooperman shares our belief in relationships over transactions and talent over titles. Our clients will continue working with their trusted advisors, now backed by broader resources.”
The acquisition deepens Citrin Cooperman’s presence in Southern California, where the firm has completed 12 acquisitions—including four in the San Diego metro area—since 2019. “From our first conversations, it was clear GPW shares our commitment to excellence, client service, and creating a supportive environment for professionals to thrive,” said Alan Badey, CEO of Citrin Cooperman.
