Barry Melancon, the President and CEO of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and CEO of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2024, ending a 30-year tenure marked by significant growth and transformative initiatives. The Association's Board of Directors has partnered with global search firm Korn Ferry to select Melancon's successor, set to be announced before the year end.
Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, has announced his intention to retire on December 31, 2024, from his roles as President and CEO of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and CEO of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (the Association). Melancon has dedicated 30 years to leading the profession, significantly shaping its direction and growth.
Professional Background:
Melancon began his tenure as CEO of AICPA in 1995 at the age of 37, becoming the youngest individual to hold this position in the organization's history. He later became CEO of the Association in 2017, following the merger of AICPA and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Throughout his career, Melancon has been instrumental in launching initiatives such as CPA.com, the computerization of the CPA exam, and the creation of the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation.
Succession Plans:
The Association's Board of Directors is collaborating with Korn Ferry, a global executive search firm, to identify Melancon's successor. The appointment is expected to be announced before the end of the year, with Melancon assisting in the transition to ensure a seamless leadership change.
Melancon's retirement marks the end of a distinguished era in the accounting profession, characterized by transformative leadership and a commitment to advancing the profession's global impact.
