BDO Names CEO Successor Candidate as Wayne Berson Plans 2026 Retirement

BDO USA's CEO, Wayne Berson, who has led the company since 2012, will retire on June 30, 2026, after increasing the firm's annual revenue by almost 400%. The company has tapped Matthew K. Becker, national managing principal of tax, as the potential successor, pending a firmwide ratification vote scheduled for July 2025.
BDO USA has announced that Wayne Berson, CEO since 2012, will retire on June 30, 2026, concluding a transformative 14-year tenure. Under Berson’s leadership, the Chicago-based firm saw its annual revenue grow by nearly 400%, reaching approximately $2.9 billion in FY2023. His strategic initiatives included converting the firm’s structure from a partnership to a corporation and eventually into an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP), extending equity participation to eligible employees, and aligning long-term growth with workforce prosperity.
In preparation for this leadership transition, BDO’s board of directors has named Matthew K. Becker, national managing principal of tax, as the candidate to succeed Berson. A firmwide ratification vote among BDO’s principals is scheduled for July 2025, following a series of internal discussions with both Berson and Becker. If approved, Becker will assume the role of CEO beginning July 1, 2026.
Becker is a seasoned member of BDO’s executive leadership team and currently leads the firm’s tax strategy and operations. He is widely respected within the firm for his commitment to BDO’s core values and his steady leadership amid ongoing shifts in the accounting landscape.
Berson will continue to serve on the BDO USA Board and will remain on BDO International Ltd.’s Global Board through the remainder of his tenure, supporting continuity and global alignment during the transition.
