Maine-based accounting firm Baker Newman Noyes (BNN) has announced the planned retirement of its Managing Principal, Dayton Benway, at the end of 2024, after a 24-year tenure. In anticipation of his departure, Benway is working with BNN's management committee for a smooth succession, reinforcing the firm's commitment to its clients, employees, and industry reputation.
Baker Newman Noyes (BNN), a nationally recognized top accounting firm based in Portland, Maine, has announced that Managing Principal Dayton Benway will retire at the end of 2024. Benway's tenure at BNN spans over 24 years, including six years as managing principal. During this period, he has been instrumental in leading the firm through significant growth and industry challenges.
Leadership Transition and Future Plans
In preparation for his retirement, Benway is collaborating closely with BNN's management committee to ensure a seamless transition. He is committed to assisting the newly appointed managing principal in assuming the role effectively. Benway expressed his belief in the importance of leadership succession, stating, "I have always believed there is a time and place for every leader." He added, "Keeping my own advice in mind, I have decided that my time leading BNN as managing principal should come to an end, and it’s time for the next leader to take the firm forward."

BNN Principal Rick Cyr acknowledged Benway's contributions, stating, "We are tremendously grateful to Dayton for his passion and dedication to BNN’s employees, clients, and community partners and wish him all the best in this new chapter."
