CohnReznick LLP Appoints William Gassel as Partner in National Assurance Group

CohnReznick LLP, a top-ranked New York-based advisory, assurance, and tax firm, has appointed William Gassel, an experienced CPA, as a partner in its National Assurance group. Gassel's appointment will help CohnReznick to enhance its internal control processes and maintain regulatory compliance across bodies, leveraging his strengths in quality control, regulatory compliance, and proactive approach to audit protocol.
New York, N.Y.-based CohnReznick LLP, a top-ranked advisory, assurance, and tax firm, has announced the addition of William (Bill) Gassel, CPA, as a partner in its National Assurance group. Bringing a wealth of expertise to his new role, Gassel will be responsible for assessing, developing, and managing internal quality control (QC) monitoring systems across the firm. He joins CohnReznick with a distinguished background, including over 20 years of experience at a Big Four accounting firm, eight years in audit regulation, and three years with a Fortune 125 company.
Throughout his career, Gassel has built a reputation for his leadership in quality control and regulatory compliance. Notably, he developed and implemented a monitoring program for a system of quality management in accordance with ISQM 1 standards and has led teams through preparations for PCAOB engagement inspections. His regulatory experience extends to designing and overseeing SEC Section 404 compliance for internal controls, ensuring seamless compliance with rigorous standards.
Robert Hilbert, Managing Partner of Assurance at CohnReznick, emphasized the strategic importance of Gassel’s appointment, stating, “As the public accounting industry prepares for the implementation of new PCAOB and AICPA quality control rulemaking, it is critical we continue to evolve our internal control processes to maintain compliance across regulatory bodies. Bill’s strong leadership skills and proven capabilities developing and implementing innovative QC enhancements across teams and industries will play a key role in advancing CohnReznick’s assurance QC environment and processes.”
Gassel’s prior role as the ongoing monitoring leader for a Big Four firm saw him oversee in-process engagements and analyze audit quality data, contributing valuable insights into quality control standards. A licensed CPA in Connecticut and Missouri, he holds an MBA from Washington University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, summa cum laude, from Missouri State University.
This strategic hire underscores CohnReznick’s commitment to elevating its quality control systems and remaining at the forefront of regulatory compliance in the accounting industry.
