The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) has appointed Wendy S. Garvin as its new Executive Vice President, effective from October 1, 2024. With over two decades of experience in the accounting profession and previous leadership roles with the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, Garvin's responsibilities will primarily involve overseeing member services, governmental relations, and risk compliance, with the aim to further advance NASBA's mission of public protection and foster innovation in the organization.
The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) has announced the appointment of Wendy S. Garvin as the new executive vice president, effective October 1, 2024. This selection comes from NASBA President and CEO Daniel J. Dustin, CPA, as part of his newly formed leadership team.
Garvin brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously served as the executive director of the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy for nine years. In that capacity, she was instrumental in overseeing the board's operations in compliance with the state’s laws and regulations governing the accounting profession. Before her tenure with the board, Garvin spent a decade at the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA), where she held the position of director of professional services. Her responsibilities included managing various regulatory and advocacy initiatives, notably the administration of the peer review and professional ethics programs, while also acting as a liaison to the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy.
With a career in accounting spanning over two decades, Garvin has been active in the profession since 1999, beginning her journey with the Florida Institute of CPAs. Her contributions extend beyond her previous positions, as she has actively participated in numerous boards and committees, currently serving on the NASBA Exam Administration Committee and the AICPA Board of Examiners. Her past roles also include membership in NASBA's Peer Review Compliance Committee and the Strategic Planning Task Force, among others.
In her new position at NASBA, Garvin will be responsible for assisting Dustin in directing the organization’s activities and programs. Her duties will include overseeing member and leadership services, governmental and international relations, and risk and compliance.
Dustin expressed his enthusiasm for Garvin's appointment: “I look forward to Wendy joining NASBA’s executive team. Wendy has excelled in her previous positions and brings a deep understanding of the profession as well as the necessary technical and executive skillsets to advance our goals to innovate as an organization and collaborate with our member boards of accountancy.”
A resident of Tennessee, Garvin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Retail and Consumer Science with a minor in business from the University of Tennessee. Throughout her career, she has utilized her extensive knowledge of the accounting field to help maintain the integrity of over 18,000 licensed CPAs and CPA firms in Tennessee. In her new role with NASBA, Garvin aims to support the Boards of Accountancy across all jurisdictions in regulating the profession, furthering the mission of public protection.
Until next time…
