KPMG International has announced a series of significant leadership changes, with Will Williams set to assume the role of global chief operating officer on October 1. This appointment follows the elevation of Gary Wingrove to the position of global chairman and CEO, succeeding Bill Thomas. Williams, who currently chairs KPMG's Americas region, has previously served as COO for the Americas and vice chair of operations for KPMG US. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing strategic initiatives, enhancing operational excellence, and integrating emerging technologies to improve client outcomes and firm performance.
In his new role as global COO, Williams will collaborate closely with Wingrove and the Global Management Team. His responsibilities will include executing the firm's strategy, aligning technology and investment priorities, and overseeing key global capabilities across the KPMG network. Wingrove praised Williams for his operational expertise and strategic execution, highlighting his understanding of clients, people, and the global network as key strengths that will drive the firm's transformation and growth.
Additionally, KPMG has announced leadership changes in the Americas region. Tim Walsh has been elected chair, succeeding Williams, effective July 1. Walsh will continue his role as chair and CEO of KPMG US. Atif Zaim has been elected deputy chair of the Americas region and will join the KPMG Global Board. Both Walsh and Zaim bring extensive experience with multinational clients and are recognized for their strategic direction and execution capabilities. Their leadership is expected to further strengthen KPMG's position in the Americas and contribute to the firm's global strategy.
In the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region, Klaus Becker has been re-elected as chairman for an additional three-year term, effective October 1. Becker's leadership has been pivotal in advancing KPMG's global strategy, particularly in AI-enabled transformation and cross-border services. His re-election reflects continued confidence in his ability to navigate the complexities of the region and capture emerging opportunities.
