Florida-based Current, previously Crete Professionals Alliance, has rebranded and announced plans to expand its AI-enabled advisory services for independent accounting firms nationwide. The initiative, aimed at leveling the playing field against larger firms, supports nearly 30 partner firms and has a proven track record, having processed 7,000 tax returns and reduced preparation time by an average of 31% during a successful pilot run in 2025.
Tampa, Fla.-based Current, previously known as Crete Professionals Alliance, has announced a rebranding initiative as part of its strategy to expand its national platform for independent accounting firms. This move underscores the organization's commitment to integrating AI-enabled advisory services, aiming to empower local accounting firms to compete with larger entities while offering advanced advisory services to middle-market and Main Street clients.
Current supports nearly 30 partner firms across the United States, encompassing over 2,000 employees and generating more than $500 million in annual revenue. According to Steve Stagner, CEO of Current, the rebranding reflects the firm's mission to bridge the gap between transactional services and strategic partnerships, which have traditionally been accessible only to large corporations and ultra-wealthy clients. Stagner emphasized the importance of equipping smaller firms with the necessary tools to compete effectively.
Backed by Thrive Holdings and in collaboration with OpenAI, Current provides its partner firms with shared services, technology, and operational support, while allowing them to maintain local ownership and branding. During the 2025 tax season, Current successfully piloted its Tax AI platform, processing approximately 7,000 tax returns and reducing preparation time by an average of 31%. This technology is now being expanded across its partner firms, demonstrating the potential for significant efficiency gains.
Kelli Visser, managing partner of Larson Gross, one of the firms involved in the pilot, praised Current's team for delivering on their promises, which transformed a test engagement into a substantial opportunity. This rebranding and technological advancement highlight Current's dedication to enhancing the capabilities of its partner firms and redefining the landscape of accounting services.
