Accounting firm Grant Thornton has launched the Grant Thornton Analytics & Automation Platform (GTAP), a proprietary, cloud-based infrastructure designed to revolutionize audit delivery using analytics, automation, and AI. Initially intended for private company audits, GTAP is expected to enhance the efficiency and quality of audits, shift the focus towards risk assessment and real-time insights, while laying the groundwork for future AI capabilities.
Grant Thornton, a leading firm in the U.S. accounting sector, has announced the launch of its proprietary cloud-based audit infrastructure, the Grant Thornton Analytics & Automation Platform (GTAP). This platform is set to revolutionize audit delivery within the firm's U.S. Audit & Assurance practice by embedding analytics, automation, and AI throughout the audit lifecycle. The GTAP aims to create a standardized, cloud-based infrastructure for ingesting, transforming, and analyzing audit data, enhancing both the quality and efficiency of audits.
The GTAP platform is designed to work seamlessly across various ERP systems, supporting full-population analysis, automated workpapers, and AI-driven workflows. It also lays the groundwork for future AI capabilities that can identify risks, anomalies, and insights in real-time under auditor oversight. According to Ron Messenger, CEO of Grant Thornton LLP, this initiative represents a significant investment in the future of audit, moving towards a data-led model that allows audit teams to focus on critical areas such as risk assessment and delivering real-time insights.
Initially, GTAP will be deployed for private company audits, with plans to expand its use to public company audits next year. This phased rollout is part of Grant Thornton's strategy to transform the audit process while ensuring that professionals remain in control of decision-making and judgment. Mike Kempe, Chief Information Officer of Grant Thornton Advisors LLC, emphasized that the platform is designed to evolve alongside advancements in AI technology, ensuring that audits remain aligned with modern business operations.
The development of GTAP originated with Grant Thornton Ireland and was further enhanced in collaboration with the firm's U.S. technology team. This multinational effort underscores Grant Thornton's commitment to innovation and its role in shaping the future of audit practices.
