Atlanta-based accounting firm Smith + Howard has expanded its tax strategy services with the introduction of two specialized practices, Site Selection + Incentives (SSI) and State and Local Income Tax Consulting (SALT). The new practices, led by economic development expert Shelly Carmichael and tax attorney Brandee A. Tilman respectively, aim to provide deep-focus, client-specific advisory to businesses, covering areas from location and incentives optimization to complex multi-state income and franchise tax compliance.
Smith + Howard is doubling down on tax strategy with the debut of two specialized practices: Site Selection + Incentives (SSI) and State and Local Income Tax Consulting (SALT). The Atlanta-based IPA 100 firm tapped economic development expert Shelly Carmichael to lead SSI, while seasoned tax attorney Brandee A. Tilman heads SALT, reflecting the firm’s focus on high-impact, client-centric advisory.
Carmichael’s SSI group guides businesses through location decisions and incentive optimization for expansions, relocations, and supply chain pivots. From labor market analysis to incentives negotiation, the practice helps clients turn geographic strategy into measurable ROI.
Tilman’s SALT practice addresses the increasing complexity of multi-state income and franchise tax compliance.
