Memphis tax preparer, Selma Brinson, pleaded guilty to aiding in the preparation of a false tax return, which sought over $5.4 million in improper refunds from the IRS. The 64-year-old's fraudulent business model used falsified fuel tax credits, residential energy credits, and health savings account deductions to inflate refunds, prompting an investigation by the IRS Criminal Investigation and the Justice Department’s Tax Section.
