OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar has proposed a new framework to establish an AI-native finance function, aimed at providing real-time updates and eliminating the need for end-of-month accounting reconciliation. The plan aims to enhance decision-making by continually updating financial data rather than finance teams having to retrospect every month, thus reducing "decision latency". Friar's framework also indicates that AI doesn't aim to replace human roles in finance but to aid in preparing data, with the human team retaining accountability.
