Regina Durkin from New River, Arizona pled guilty to participating in a scheme to steal over $7.7 million from the federal government via false employment tax returns connected to pandemic-era tax credits. The Justice Department states Durkin and others fraudulently claimed the Employee Retention Credit and the paid sick and family leave credit, meant to support businesses and their employees during the pandemic, by filing false quarterly employment tax returns for non-operating businesses with no employees or wages.
