Big Four firm KPMG has launched a new initiative called Client Technology & Innovation (CT&I), aimed at creating AI-native businesses that can develop products and find customers within the firm. Headed by Todd Lohr, the objective of CT&I is not just to use AI but to behave more like a technology startup, incubating ideas and pursuing joint ventures without being bound by the structure of traditional accounting practices. This ambitious strategy has potential upsides, such as access to both expertise monetization and intellectual property, but it also poses questions regarding risk management, governance, and meeting auditing independence requirements.
