Governor JB Pritzker has signed House Bill 2459, which introduces two new pathways to CPA licensure in Illinois starting 1 January 2027. The bill, supported by both Democrats and Republicans, will allow future CPAs to qualify either with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and two years of work experience or a master’s degree in accounting and one year of work experience, offering more flexibility and acting as a crucial solution for the declining enrollment and shrinking CPA exam candidate pools in the sector.
