The IRS, in collaboration with the Government Accountability Office and the Taxpayer Advocate Service, has launched new pilot programs to make Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) more efficient and less taxing for tax professionals and taxpayers. These programs aim to improve the functionality of existing ADR programs Fast Track Settlement (FTS) and Post-Appeals Mediation (PAM), which saw a 65% decrease in use from 2013 through 2022 due to rigid rules, inconsistent decisions, and complexity, by introducing more flexibility, transparency, and oversight, and removing some restrictions.
