The IRS Office of Professional Responsibility has issued guidelines for tax professionals on how to ethically use generative AI in federal tax practice. The guidelines state that while AI can increase efficiency in research, document review and client communication, any output must be verified for accuracy, client data has to be properly protected, and savings from AI-driven efficiencies should be passed on to clients in the form of fair billing practices.
