Crowe Expands AI Center of Excellence and Appoints Firmwide AI Leader

September 30, 2024, Chicago —Firm Crowe LLP has unveiled the expansion of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center of Excellence (CoE), which now integrates dedicated teams in AI Lab, AI Engineering, and AI Enablement. This multidisciplinary AI CoE is poised to impact all aspects of Crowe’s service portfolio and is led by the firm’s 30-year veteran, Doug Schrock, in his new role as Firmwide AI Managing Principal (MP).
In discussing the role of AI in modern business, Crowe’s CEO Mark Baer commented, “It is impossible to overstate the transformative power and value AI will bring to businesses and communities. Responsibly harnessing the power of AI to accelerate innovation will drive success for our clients.” Baer emphasized that Crowe’s expanded AI CoE not only strengthens the firm’s internal capabilities but also brings critical infrastructure for AI adoption and real-world impact to clients, separating AI’s potential from mere hype.
A Strategic AI Initiative for Practical Client Impact
Crowe’s AI CoE will support clients’ AI journeys across four primary areas:
1. AI Data Curation and Quality: Ensuring high-quality, relevant data for AI application.
2. AI Governance: Establishing responsible AI management frameworks.
3. AI Transformation: Integrating AI to fundamentally reshape business operations.
4. Bespoke AI Solutions: Creating customized AI tools tailored to specific client needs.
With these aims in focus, the AI Lab will drive AI exploration, rapidly developing proofs of concept and identifying innovative AI technologies that enhance Crowe’s value to clients. The AI Engineering team, staffed with skilled engineers and data scientists, will focus on crafting purpose-built AI solutions, while the AI Enablement team will support clients in educating staff, innovating workflows, and successfully deploying AI within their operations.

Doug Schrock, who has extensive experience advising clients on strategic and transformative technology adoption, sees AI as “the most transformative technology development in our lifetimes.” Schrock believes that the mainstream rise of generative AI marks just the beginning, envisioning a pathway toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
