Switzerland is set to hold a national vote on 28 September to decide whether to eliminate the imputed rental value system, a tax on homeowners as if they are renting out their properties. The change would result in a tax break worth approximately $2.1 billion a year and could reduce property taxes by up to 22% for homeowners, but would likely lead to increased housing demand and potential spikes in other taxes to recover the lost revenue.
