Francisco Ivan Velazquez has been convicted for posing as an IRS officer and falsely promising homeowners foreclosure refunds in return for a fee. Velazquez was found guilty on multiple counts of wire fraud and impersonation, and is set to be sentenced on February 18, 2026. His scam, which duped desperate individuals into paying him for nonexistent IRS foreclosure refund programs, highlights the importance of vigilance and identity verification in tax-related processes.
