The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has warned auditors about putting too much trust in valuation experts, actuaries, and engineers without thoroughly examining their findings. The PCAOB says auditors must own risk assessments, assess the credibility and objectivity of specialists, and cross-check expert conclusions to prevent major financial misstatements and potential SEC investigations.
