CE Requirements

10 CE hours must be completed each calendar year.

License Renewal Period

The credential is maintained on an annual calendar-year cycle.

CE Reporting Cycle

Calendar year, January 1 through December 31, with reporting and grace-period actions continuing through March 1 for the prior cycle.

Ethics Requirement

At least 1 CE hour each year must address business or professional ethics and the ARA Code of Professional Conduct.

Carry Over Credits

No. CE must be earned and reported for the current cycle, and unused hours do not carry forward.

Subject Area Restriction

The credential-specific handbook uses a 4 CE Relevant Topics requirement, plus 1 ethics hour, with the remaining 5 CE allowed in professional development topics.

Simplifying Regulations for 2026

CE Requirement

Complete 10 CE hours each calendar year after the year the credential is earned.

Initial CE Hours

CE is waived for the calendar year in which a new credential is earned. Example: if earned in July 2026, the first full reporting year is 2027.

Eligible Learning Activities

Qualified third-party CE from recognized associations, colleges, government agencies, commercial enterprises, or employers may be self-reported. Speaking, instructing, and publishing retirement-plan content may also qualify when NAPA's reporting rules are met. A maximum of 25 CE credits is allowed per event or study group.

CE Deadline

Complete the cycle by December 31. A grace period extends through March 1 for reporting the prior year, and NAPA-provided CE earned before March 1 may still be applied to the prior cycle.

Reporting Period
