All licensed CPAs in Oregon must complete 80 hours of approved continuing education in every 2-year license renewal period with at least 20 of the required 80 CPE hours must be completed in each year of the renewal period (Effective from 1-10-2023). As of October 1, 2023, Oregon CPAs are no longer obligated to complete 4 hours of CPE in a specific Oregon State-specific law and ethics course as previously mandated by the Oregon State Board of Accountancy. They now have the option to take a general ethics course for the same 4 CPE hours.

As a requirement for the renewal of an active license, licensees are required to certify that the licensee has fulfilled the CPE requirement by signing or electronically affirming the certification section on the renewal form. You will be responsible for submitting copies of your certificates of completion and/or verification of courses at the time of the audit. You must retain your documentation for at least five (5) years after the completion of educational courses.
An Oregon (OR) CPA can complete 100% of the total required CPE credit hours via self-study courses. i.e., an Oregon (OR) CPA can complete all 80 hours via self-study courses from the NASBA-approved sponsors. A registrant must report, at a minimum, the CPE hours required for the registration renewal period. 20 hours that exceed the number required for the current registration renewal period may be carried forward to a subsequent registration renewal period.
