Shawn embarked on his professional journey as an intern in a public accounting firm in India, where he delved into the intricacies and demands of managing a firm. During this time, he gained hands-on experience in various tasks including tax return preparation and planning, as well as conducting statutory and tax audits. Working in a smaller accounting firm provided Shawn with a comprehensive understanding of different facets of the accounting business and client service. Since 2 months itself he started managing engagements by himself.
Internships in the field of chartered accountancy offer modest stipends—often less than 1000 ($20) rupees a month, equivalent to approximately $15. Shawn had to take on a part-time job to support his family. Thus, alongside his internship, he worked as a reseller of insurance and mutual funds. This role required him to traverse his city and its outskirts, engaging in door-to-door sales of insurance policies and mutual funds. This experience proved invaluable for Shawn as it provided him with firsthand insights into personal sales and business development—a dimension not commonly encountered by accountants. By clearing examinations conducted by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) and the National Institute of Securities Market (NISM), Shawn got necessary license for Insurance and Investment advisory.

Transitioning to the pharmaceutical industry, Shawn played a pivotal role in the growth of ERIS, a former client during his time in public accounting. Joining the company in its infancy with just 10 employees, he witnessed its remarkable expansion to a workforce of 4000. Notable accomplishments during his tenure include

Shawn, along with his younger brother, ventured into the pharmaceutical business alongside a professional from the industry. Unfortunately, due to conflicts with the partner and a lack of competence in managing the business effectively, the venture ended in failure. This setback resulted in Shawn’s losing 50% of his accumulated savings from his decade-long experience. Transitioning out from a successful role as the CFO of Eris Life Sciences, this loss was particularly significant for Shawn and his family. Shawn’s was tremendously low point of his career.
Shawn began his career at a public accounting firm in Florida, where he gained valuable experience in the US accounting industry. His responsibilities included handling tax filings such as 1040 and 1120S, as well as performing audit and financial statement work. It was during this time that Shawn recognized the staffing challenges faced by the accounting industry. Inspired by this insight, he envisioned that outsourcing work to India could be a viable solution to address these staffing issues.
After experiencing the setback of losing 50% of his savings, Shawn was not willing to return to his previous company and instead sought employment elsewhere. During this time, insights shared by Valay's friend, Hardik Mehta, who worked in the outsourcing industry, during coffee sessions proved invaluable. He shared glimpses on how this Industry worked. Shawn’s confidence was at all time low and in no way he could have afforded to start another venture and take risk. However when you are deep trouble, listen to people who are going to live those consequences. Shawn's brother and wife continued to support and encourage him. They reminded me that I had a successful career 10+ years this is just 1 year off so give yourself sometime and start another venture. This lead to the inception of MYCPE ONE. Shawn's first trip to the US in July 2015 was primarily for market research. It was during his second trip that active marketing efforts began, including meetings with accountants. After over 300 unsuccessful meetings, MYCPE ONE secured its first client, J E Owens & Company, on the eve of December 31, 2015, marking the official launch of the business.
My-CPE was started as a continuing education platform for CPAs and EAs as a means to generate leads for MYCPE ONE. As CPAs require credits and we provided them for free credits if they come and attend webinar on our platform. However, as we delved deeper into this endeavor, we recognized its potential to evolve into a fully-fledged online continuing education platform, eventually becoming one of the fastest-growing platforms in the CPA space. 4Cs - Circles, Coaching, Consulting & Connect: Through this initiative, we plan to expand further by establishing a coaching and consulting arm for accounting firms and creating interest-based communities for accountants. This will also include hosting in-person events, conducting public accounting research, and offering M&A advisory services for accounting firms.

We have pledged to support the education of one child for every MYCPE ONE team member. With this mission, we started this initiative. The initiative began in May 2019, but due to the pandemic, we had to halt it. In March 2022, we partnered with local schools to restart the initiative and are now on our way to reaching our goal.
Every week, our volunteers meet children who have minimal access to educational resources and spend time engaging with them and distributing school supplies. We provide school fee support and educational support to these underserved yet deserving kids.
