Members must complete 120 CPD hours over a three-year rolling cycle, with at least 20 hours required annually, which includes 10 hours of verifiable learning and 10 hours of non-verifiable learning.
All new members, including those who are or were members in another jurisdiction, are exempt from the continuing professional development requirements in the year in which they became Members, provided they completed their period of study in the same year or the immediately preceding year of admission to membership.

Yes, CPA-NWT/NU allows members to complete 100% of their CPD hours through self-study.
Eligible learning activities include-
- Verifiable CPD - Verifiable CPD includes seminars, post-secondary courses (no limit), teaching or authoring with significant content changes (25 hrs/year), tutoring (15 hrs/year), CPA mentorship (5 hrs/year), and peer review (5 hrs/year).
- Unverifiable CPD- Unverifiable CPD includes self-study, post-secondary courses, tutoring (30 hrs/year), mentorship, significant job changes (20 hrs/year), and more.
CPD hours for a calendar year must be reported by December 31st annually.
Members must renew their license by March 31st of the following year.
The deadline for reporting CPD hours is March 31st, of the following year. Failure to report CPD hours will result in late fees as follows -
- April 1–30: Late fee $100
- May 1–31: Additional $400 (Total $500)
- After May 31: Late fee $500 + Reinstatement fee $500 (Total $1,000). View more
