CPA Ontario CPD Requirements Overview

CPD Requirements
120 hours over a three-year rolling cycle, with a minimum of 20 hours per year. 
License Renewal Period
April 1 to June 1, each year.
CPD Reporting Cycle
January 1 to December 31, annually.
Ethics Requirement
Four (4) hours of professional ethics over a three-year rolling cycle.
Carryover credit
Cannot carry over excess credits to the next reporting cycle.
Subject Area Restriction
Min. of 60 verifiable hours every three years and a min. of 10 verifiable hours each year.

Simplifying Regulations for 2026

CPD Requirement
The Ontario CPAs are required to complete 120 hours over a rolling three-year calendar period, with 20 hours each calendar year.
Initial CPD HoursNew CPA Ontario members must complete full CPD requirements in the year of admission if admitted on or before September 30; those admitted after September 30 are exempt. Members admitted through other pathways must also complete full CPD. The first triennial period is the first three years of membership, with exemptions pro-rated.
Ethics Requirement

Reporting
CPD credits must be reported by June 1 each year.
License Renewal
Renew your CPA license by submitting your CPD Declaration by June 1. A late fee applies after this date, and failure to submit by June 30 may result in suspension. 
Carry Forward
No carry-forward of credits allowed.
Record Retention
Maintain records of completed CPD credits for 5 years as they may be subject to audit by the state board.
