The Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) is a professional certification for TD professionals. It is broad and measures a professional’s knowledge and skill application across the breadth of talent development capabilities. Successful CPTDs report that the process of studying for their CPTD designation was a tremendous growth opportunity, allowed them to learn and give back to the profession, and made a positive impact on their careers.

Recertification Requirements Overview:

CPTD professionals must earn 60 points during each three-year cycle to recertify and continue using the credential.

There is no minimum ethics requirement but for those renewing credentials before April 30, 2024, CPTD professionals need a minimum of 20 points in Continuing Education. This includes a focus on different topics, such as Compliance & Ethical Behavior.
Renewal is accepted three months before expiration. Email reminders are sent 90 days before expiration, emphasizing professionals' responsibility for updated contact information and monitoring their expiration date.
Certification lasts three years, starting from the day after passing the exam. For instance, if the exam is passed on September 15, 2023, the cycle begins on September 16, 2023, and ends on September 30, 2026. Subsequent cycles begin the day after expiration and last three years. For example, if the certification expires on April 30, 2023, the next cycle starts on May 1, 2023, and concludes on April 30, 2026.

myCPE Package for a Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) Professional meets all the CE requirements of professionals specified by ATD.
CPTDs must earn at least 20 points in continuing education. For credential holders recertifying before April 30, 2024, a minimum number of points must be earned in the Recertification Requirements category from programs covering new topics. After satisfying this requirement, in subsequent recertification cycles, professionals can earn continuing education points from programs covering any topic in the Talent Development Capability Model.
Recommended learning activities include live webinars, virtual events, articles, packages, e-books, certificate courses, and activities such as serving as a teacher, speaker, or moderator.

Credential holders who do not recertify by their expiration dates are officially no longer certified and must cease representing themselves as certified. There is a 30-day grace period for late renewal applications.
Points may not be carried over from one recertification cycle to the next; they must be earned within the specific three-year certification cycle.
Yes. All educational activities must be at least 30 minutes in length to qualify. After the first 30 minutes, points can be counted for quarter-point (fifteen minutes) increments.
