What are CPE Requirements for Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Professionals?

Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE) are required to complete at least 20 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) every 12-month period out of which at least 10 of these hours must relate directly to the detection and deterrence of fraud. No, there are no minimum CPE requirements in a particular subject area.

Qualifying activities are:

  • College Course Credit
  • In-House Training
  • Self-Study Credit
  • Instructor Credit (Maximum of 10 CPE Credits per Year)
  • Author Credit (Maximum of 10 CPE Credits per Year)
  • Meeting Credit (Maximum of 10 CPE Credits per Year)

CFE license holders are required to pay renewal fees to renew the Certified Fraud Examiner license.

A Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) can fulfill all required CPE hours exclusively through self-study courses. All 20 hours of CPE via self-study courses offered by NASBA-approved sponsors like myCPE (Sponsor ID 143597), ensuring 100% compliance with CFE required CPE hours.

Yes, the Short video (Nano learning) method is approved for the CPE requirements of the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). AICPA accepts NASBA-sponsored CPE.

If you have earned more than 20 hours of CPE in your previous reporting period, you may roll over up to 10 of these hours to meet your current CPE requirements. Any member who is unable to demonstrate CPE compliance is subject to suspension. CFEs can apply for a CPE deadline extension via their account at ACFE.com or by contacting a Member Services Representative. Professionals may qualify for exemptions from their CFE CPE requirements due to special circumstances, which are assessed individually on a case-by-case basis. A written request must be sent to the ACFE citing special circumstances that make CPE compliance impossible. Any member who is found to have made a false certification may be subject to discipline including expulsion from the ACFE. 

If the credential holder is newly credentialed, CPE does not need to be completed until the year following receipt of the credential.

Proof of CPE must be retained for three years. This includes supporting documents for the CPE credit you earn, such as CPE certificates.

CPE documentation must include:

  • Name of attendee
  • Course Description
  • Course Sponsor name
  • Number of CPE hours earned
  • Date of Course

The ACFE will not accept the following for CPE documentation:

  • Registration forms
  • Paid invoices
  • Course Syllabi
  • PowerPoint presentation slides

CFEs are required to certify CPE compliance by the end of your anniversary month, which is the month your membership is renewed each year.

myCPE provides courses that are approved for continuing education credits by NASBA. Based on the guidelines issued by these boards regarding Continuing Education Requirements, we recommend the programs/ webinars to be suitable for NASBA specified in each webinar. However, it will be the responsibility of each attendee to ensure that they are eligible for the Continuing Education Credits based on their occupation/ job profile, knowledge requirements as well as guidelines laid down by their regulatory board before registering for the webinars.
