Details

REPORTING PERIOD :

CPAs - Required to report their CPE credits annually. However, each state has prescribed a different reporting cycle.
CIAs - The reporting period starts from January 1st to December 31st annually.
CFE - The CPE Reporting Cycle for CFE professionals is based on the anniversary month.

CE REQUIREMENTS :

CPAs - There are generally 40 CPE Requirements. However, each state determines its own CPE requirements for its Certified Public Accountant license.
CIAs - 40 hours for practicing CIAs and 20 hours for Non-practicing CIAs.
CFE - 20 hours of CPE every 12 months.

ETHICS REQUIREMENTS :

CPAs - Generally, the state requires CPAs to comply with the 4-hour Ethics requirement which may be through regulatory ethics or board-approved state-specific ethics courses.
CIAs - 2 hours on the subject focusing on Ethics.
CFE - 2 hours of Ethics.

CARRY OVER CREDITS :

CPAs - Generally CPAs cannot carry forward excess credits to the next reporting cycle. However, each state determines its own carry-forward requirements.
CIAs - CIA professionals cannot carry over excess credits to the next reporting cycle.
CFE – If you have earned more than 20 hours of CPE in your previous reporting period, you may roll over up to 10 of these hours to meet your current CPE requirements.
