One (1) hour/ 50 CPE minutes of ethics every year.
Carry Over Credits
North Carolina CPA can carry forward up to 20 hours of CPE credits in the next reporting cycle, ethics CPE hours shall not be included in any carry forward hours.
Subject Area Requirement
There is no minimum content requirement.

Initial CPE Hours
  • CPAs approved in April–June must complete 30 hrs/1,500 CPE minutes within the calendar year. 
  • CPAs approved in July–September must complete 20 hrs/1,000 CPE minutes within the calendar year.

There is no minimum content requirement.
Subject Areas 
North Carolina Board of Accountancy accepts field of studies as per NASBA.
Learning Modes
100% of the total CPE that you earn in one continuing education year can be in self-study.
Eligible Learning Activities
Eligible learning activities include Group Activities, Self-Study and Nano learning, Blended Learning, College Courses (Max 50% of annual CPE), Authoring Publications (Max. 25% of CPE) and more.
CPE Deadline
31 December annually.

Reporting

License Renewal
Renew your CPA license before July 1 annually, if a CPA fails to renew their license before July 1, the Board will send a Letter of Demand to the CPA at the mailing address on file with the Board. View more
Carry Forward
Carry forward up to 20 hours of CPE credits in the next reporting cycle, ethics CPE hours shall not be included in any carry forward hours.
Record Retention
Maintain records of completed CPE credits for 4 years as they may be subject to audit by the state board.
Renewal Fees
The renewal fee for North Carolina CPAs is $60.
