CPAs - There are generally 40 CPE Requirements. However, each state determines its CPE requirements for its Certified Public Accountant license.
CFP® - 30 hours of CPE are required every 2 years.
REPORTING PERIOD :
CPAs - CPAs are required to report their CPE credits annually. However, each state has prescribed a different reporting cycle.
CFP® – The reporting period for CFP® starts from the renewal date to the last day before the next renewal in the two-year cycle.
ETHICS REQUIREMENTS :
CPAs - Generally, the state requires CPAs to comply with the 4 hours Ethics requirement which may be through regulatory ethics or board-approved state-specific ethics courses.
CFP®- - 2 hours of CFP® Board-approved Ethics CE each reporting period.
CARRYOVER OF CREDITS :
CPAs - Each state has different policies concerning the carry-over of credits to the future year.
CFP® - CFP® Board does not allow Certified Financial Planners to carry excess CE credits over from the next reporting cycle.
