Kentucky CPA CPE Requirements Overview

CPE Requirements80 CPE hours if they worked 3,000 or more hours in public accounting over the two years prior to renewal; all others need 60 CPE hours.
License Renewal PeriodJuly 1 to July 31 of your renewal year (2025 for odd, 2026 for even).
CPE Reporting CycleTwo calendar years ending December 31 of the year before renewal (2023–2024 for odd, 2024–2025 for even).
Ethics RequirementTwo (2) hours of ethics during the two-year period.
Carryover creditKentucky CPAs can carry over a maximum of 20 Credits.
Subject Area Restriction
  • CPAs with an 80-hour CPE requirement may include up to 8 hours of personal development courses.  
  • CPAs with a 60-hour CPE requirement may include up to 12 hours of personal development courses.
  • Min. 50% (40/ 30 hours) in technical standards courses.
  • Min. 8 hours in A & A each calendar year for licensees performing attest services or preparing financial statement engagements subject to SSARS, totaling 16 hours per reporting period.

Kentucky CPE RequirementKentucky CPAs are required to complete 80 CPE hours if they have worked 3,000 hours or more in a licensed public accounting firm during the two calendar years leading up to their license renewal. All other licensees must complete 60 CPE hours during the same period.
Initial CPE HoursNew licensees in Kentucky must earn two CPE hours for each full month their license is held, up to the maximum required hours for the reporting period, if they held the license for less than two full calendar years. Ethics hours are not included in this total. View more

Reporting

CPE credits must be reported during the renewal window (July 1–31 of your renewal year).

License Renewal

Renew your CPA license by July 31 of your renewal year. Failure to comply with CPE requirements will require the licensee to contact the board before the renewal period if credits are incomplete. View more
