Virginia CPA CPE Requirements for Ethics and License Renewal

Virginia CPA CPE requirements call for 120 hours over a rolling three-year period, with at least 20 annually. Every year, active licensees must complete a two-hour Virginia Board of Accountancy (VBOA)-approved ethics course.

Before choosing a Virginia CPA ethics course, confirm its exact title appears on the Board’s approved list for that year; ethics training from that provider may not qualify. Coursework completed by January 31 may count toward the preceding calendar year.

Renew your license by June 30, attest to compliance, and retain certificates for the four preceding calendar years in case the Board selects you for an audit."
