Wisconsin CPA CPE Requirements for Formal and Informal Learning

Wisconsin CPA CPE requirements distinguish formal courses from informal professional learning. Active licensees generally complete 80 credits from December 15, 2025, through December 14, 2027, including 20 in each 12-month period. At least 40 credits must be formal, and three formal credits must cover ethics.

Vendor-developed self-study can qualify as formal learning when the sponsor verifies participation and supplies required course details; independent reading needs separate documentation to count as informal learning. Before Wisconsin CPA license renewal, review your credit classifications carefully, retain evidence of each activity for five years, and renew through Wisconsin’s LicensE portal by December 14, 2027.
