Simplifying Regulations for 2024

CPE RequirementHawaii CPAs must complete 80 hours every two years, at least 20 hours yearly. 
Initial CPE Hours
The CPE requirement of 80 hours may be prorated only for the permit obtained for the biennium period immediately following an individual's first permit to practice.

Hawaii Board recognizes and accepts CPE courses that fall under NASBA-approved fields of study.
Learning Modes
All CPE can be completed through self-study, provided the courses are from approved providers.

QAS Self-Study, Group Internet-Based, Nano Learning, Reviewer(max.20), Instructor (max 40 hours), and more.
CPE Deadline
CPE credits must be completed by December 31 biennially, ending in odd-numbered years
Reporting
CPE credits must be reported from January 1 to December 31 biennially, ending in odd-numbered years.
License Renewal
Renew your CPA license biennially by December 31 of odd years. If not renewed by this date, a penalty fee of $204 will be applicable.
Carry Forward
Hawaii CPAs can carry over a maximum of 40 Credits.
Record Retention
Maintain records of completed CPE credits for 4 years as they may be subject to audit by the state board.
