CE Requirements

Complete 24 CE hours every 2 years.

License Renewal Period

Each CE cycle begins on January 1 of an even-numbered year and ends on December 31 of the following odd-numbered year.

Ethics Requirement

At least 2 of the 24 CE hours each cycle must cover ethics or professionalism topics.

Carry Over Credits

No. CE credits must be earned and reported for the current cycle only.

Subject Area Restriction

At least 22 CE hours must be in relevant topics.

Simplifying Regulations for 2026

CE Requirement

CPSP credential holders must complete twenty-four (24) CE hours every two (2) years.

Ethics Requirement

Complete at least 2 ethics or professionalism CE hours each cycle.

Initial CE Hours

CE is waived for the cycle in which the credential is earned. Example: if earned in 2026 or 2027, CE first applies in the 2028-2029 cycle.

Subject Areas

At least 22 credits must cover relevant retirement-plan subject matter such as plan design, plan operations, fiduciary duties, investment concepts, vendor management, testing and compliance, authoring, and presenting. Click here for more info.

Learning Modes

100% of CE can be completed through self-study.

Eligible Learning Activities

Qualified third-party programs, speaking, instructing, and publishing relevant articles may count. No single event, training program, or study group may exceed 25 CE credits, and article-preparation credit is capped at 10 CE credits.

CE Deadline

Complete required CE by December 31 of the applicable cycle year. A grace period through March 1 allows reporting for the prior cycle.

Reporting Period

The reporting period runs from January 1 of an even-numbered year through December 31 of the following odd-numbered year.

License Renewal

Pay the annual credential maintenance fee by December 31; PSCA provides a grace period through March 1. Missing CE or fees can result in suspension, and unresolved deficiencies may lead to revocation.

Carry Over Credits

Carryforward is not allowed.

Record Retention

Keep third-party CE completion records for at least 2 calendar years after the year reported.

Renewal Fees

The annual credential maintenance fee is $180 per year after the initial complimentary membership period. Nonpayment can result in suspension. Read more.

Do MYCPE ONE Courses Qualify for the Certified Plan Sponsor Professional (CPSP)? Yes

PSCA does not currently use a formal provider pre-approval or sponsor registry for CPSP continuing education. Instead, CPSP holders may self-report CE from qualified providers when the program covers relevant subject matter, verifies attendance and time on task, and meets PSCA's documentation rules. One CE hour equals 50 minutes of instruction or study time on task. After the first 50 minutes, credit may be earned in 5-minute increments.

Yes. PSCA does not accept CE for any event with less than 45 minutes of time on task.
