Frequently Asked Questions

CPWA certificants must complete 40 CE hours during each two-year renewal period.

Yes. Those 40 hours must include 2 ethics hours.

Yes. At least 1 of the 40 hours must be tax or regulatory content.

The Institute uses an individual two-year renewal cycle rather than one universal calendar cycle for all certificants.

Log in to your Institute account and check My Renewal Requirements in your dashboard. Your personal renewal date is displayed there, and reminders begin about six months before the deadline.

Accepted CE should align with the Institute's approved topic areas, including wealth management, behavioral finance, family dynamics, tax strategies, risk management, retirement planning, estate planning, governance, regulations, and ethics.

Yes. The Institute lists webinars among its CE opportunities, and qualifying live sessions may count when they fit approved topics and meet the time requirement.

Yes. Institute on-demand courses and other eligible self-study options may count, provided the activity fits approved topics, meets the Institute's standards, and is documented properly.

The reviewed official guidance requires qualifying programs to be at least 50 minutes long. Because of that minimum, nano or fractional learning below 50 minutes is not clearly accepted in the reviewed guidance.

In addition to courses, CE may be earned through conferences and events, publication quizzes, annual conference committee service, registered sponsor programs, and eligible self-reported CE.

If your CE is audited, you must provide documentation showing completion, content, and clock time within 30 days. The guidance encourages keeping records in your files, although it does not publish a fixed retention period.

You may carry over up to 10 CE hours into your next renewal period if they are earned during the final six months of your current cycle.

The current published renewal fee is $995 for each two-year renewal.

If you do not meet the renewal requirements by the deadline, the certification will not be licensed. If the requirements still remain unmet after the additional period described by the Institute, the credential may move to relinquishment.
