CE Requirements
Certified Wealth Strategist® (CWS®) designees must complete 30 hours of continuing education every two years.
License Renewal Period
Renewal is required every two years, ending in the month the CWS® designation was awarded.
CE Reporting Cycle
The reporting cycle begins on the first day of the month following the award of the designation and ends in the same month two years later.
Ethics Requirement
Each cycle requires 2 hours of ethics-specific training.
Carry Over Credits
Credits may not be carried forward to the next cycle.
Subject Area Restriction
There is no minimum content requirement.

Simplifying Regulations for 2026

CE Requirement
CWS® holders must complete 30 hours of CE credits in a two-year cycle.
Initial CPE Hours
CWS® designees can begin earning their CE credits on the 1st of the following month after the designation award date, and the cycle ends two years later. 
Ethics Requirement
A minimum of two hours of ethics training in each CE cycle.
Subject Areas

Learning Modes
All CPE can be completed through self-study.
Eligible Learning Activities
Eligible learning activities include recorded webinars, Teleconferencing, Podcasts, E-books, Live Webinars, and Vodcasts.
License Renewal
The Certified Wealth Strategist® (CWS®) designation must be renewed every two years, with the renewal due on the last day of the month that marks the end of the designee’s two-year reporting cycle, beginning from the month after the credential was first awarded.
Renewal Fees 
The license renewal fee is $350 for each two years.

While providers are not required to be NASBA-approved, it is recommended since NASBA certification signals adherence to industry standards. Designees report and track via the MyCWS® portal on the Cannon Financial Institute website.

No, carryover of credits to the next cycle is not permitted.

Designees should retain records  in case of an audit.

If attestations, renewal fees and required CE hours are not received within 10 days post the CWS® renewal deadline, a notice of deficiency is sent to the CWS® holder. If the deficiency is not remedied within 30 days after the renewal period deadline a notice of Inactive status is sent. Their status changes from Active to Inactive and they lose the right to use the CWS® marks and access program resources. View more.

Yes, CWS® holders may be asked to demonstrate compliance and provide proof of completed CPE.

Inactive CWS® designees may apply for reinstatement by fulfilling missed CE, paying reinstatement and renewal fees, and completing conditions like exams or capstone projects. Learn more.

No, only Active designees may use the designation and associated marks.

Yes, exceptions may be requested in writing and require unanimous Board approval.

The Board may issue reprimands, suspend or permanently revoke the right to use the CWS® marks.

Deficiency notices are issued if attestations, CE filings, or fees are late, followed by Inactive status if unresolved.

MYCPE ONE provides courses that are in line with the requirements set by CWS® Board of Standards. However, it will be the responsibility of each attendee to ensure that they are eligible for the Continuing Education Credits based on their occupation/ job profile, knowledge requirements as well as guidelines laid down by their regulatory board before registering for the webinars.
