CE Requirements

10 CE hours must be completed each calendar year.

License Renewal Period

CE is renewed annually.

CE Reporting Cycle

Calendar year, January 1 to December 31.

Ethics Requirement

At least 1 hour annually must address professional ethics and the ARA Code of Professional Conduct.

Carry Over Credits

CE credits must be earned and reported for the current cycle. CE credits may not be carried over from one cycle to the next.

Subject Area Restriction

At least 4 hours must cover retirement plan-relevant topics, and the remaining 5 hours may cover professional development in the retirement field.

Simplifying Regulations for 2026

CE Requirement

Complete 10 CE hours each calendar year.

Initial CE Hours

CE begins in the calendar year after the credential is earned. Example: if earned in 2026, CE starts in 2027.

Subject Areas

Relevant topics include retirement plan updates, plan administration, fiduciary duties, plan products, executive benefit programs, IRAs, and tax-exempt or governmental plans. Learning Modes

100% of CPD can be through self-study.

Eligible Learning Activities

Qualified third-party CE, speaking, instructing, and publishing relevant-topic articles may count. A maximum of 25 CE credits is allowed per event. Events under 45 minutes do not count. Article preparation may earn up to 10 CE credits.

CE Deadline

Complete CE by December 31, with a grace period through March 1 for the prior cycle.

Reporting Period

The CE reporting period runs from January 1 through December 31 each year.
